The Harvard Depository is Harvard University Library's archival media storage and retrieval facility. It houses over 7.5 million books, the largest collection within the Harvard University Library system and second only to the Library of Congress nationwide. It provides a specialized climate for the preservation of books and other paper-based materials that will extend the useful life of these materials by 200 years. Separate spaces provide archival environments for other media formats, such as motion picture film, microforms, and magnetic tapes. Principals of Russell Scott Steedle & Capone Architects have been involved in the design of this facility since its inception in 1986 through the 7th phase completed in 2009. The Harvard Depository was certified LEED Silver by the U.S. Green Building Council. |
