Yale University Library Storage Facility, Hamden CT

The Yale University Library Storage Facility processing area and storage module designed by RSS&C has become the standard first phase closely replicated by institutions around the country. Yale and our consultant team determined that six aisle storage modules provided 150% greater capacity at only 120% greater cost than four aisle modules for institutions that accession about 500,000 volumes per yearYale has found an economic way to satisfy the need for temporary storage of non-library materials with the Phase 2 additions. Twenty-aisles of storage were added in five modules. The two thirds of the facility that is being utilized for the University's temporary storage needs during main campus construction will gradually be converted to book storage in the future.
